A Word From the Owners
Welcome to Umkumbe Bush Lodge, where the story of our family and the African wilderness intertwines. In 1937, our ancestor Jacob Wilkens envisioned a sanctuary where his descendants and animals could thrive together. At that time, indigenous fauna was facing dwindling numbers. Nearly 90 years later and through the efforts of the founding families, the Sabi Sand sports the highest density of big game.
Now, four generations later, this piece of ancient land has become a cherished family heirloom. Over decades, we have integrated with the habitat.
As custodians of the land, we have developed unique relationships with the animals – not only as neighbours but as guests in their habitat.
Hospitality holds a special place in our hearts, which is why we made the decision to open our beloved Bushveld home to visitors from across the globe. At the same time, we remain committed to exclusivity. This ensures that we can treat every guest like family while remaining mindful of the legacy our generation passes to the next.
