What’s the best time of the year to visit Umkumbe Bush Lodge?

Every season holds its own allure, making any time of the year a perfect opportunity to visit. During spring and summer, the bush thrives with lush greenery, creating a vibrant backdrop for observing adorable baby animals. Autumn and winter bring dry conditions, causing animals to flock around watering holes. Our lodge proudly overlooks one such watering hole, offering an ideal vantage point for remarkable sightings.

What should I pack for my safari?

Embrace the essentials of comfort and versatility when packing for your safari adventure. Opt for neutral, breathable attire over bright colours and avoid white during guided bush walks. In summer, include a hat and layer up for cooler evening game drives. Winter calls for warm clothing like beanies and scarves for chilly early mornings and evenings. Regardless of the season, dressing in layers is key. Along with clothing, remember to bring sunscreen, a swimsuit, insect repellent, binoculars, and a camera.

How do guided bush walks work?

We highly encourage all our visitors to partake in this immersive and intimate nature experience. Led by qualified guides, who are often armed for safety, these guided bush walks provide deeper insights into the nuances of the ecosystem. Please note that there is an additional cost of R1180 per person for the guided bush walks. To join a bush walk, simply speak to your designated guide and register your name and suite. We regretfully cannot accommodate individuals under the age of 14 for this activity.

Should I tip on safari?

In South Africa, it is customary to express gratitude for service by providing tips to staff and guides. While not mandatory, it is recommended to offer gratuities at the conclusion of your stay.

Is there a fitness or gym facility?

Our open-air Bush Gym is a small fitness facility with fundamental gear, such as a treadmill, weights and more. The guided bush walk will also help you reach your daily steps.
